Answer: JaWS provides programming and system administration for web sites and other applications. If your site requires programming, needs a database or has high-availability requirements we are probably the perfect fit. Information about other hosting options is available on the One Help site.
Q: How much do services cost?

Q: Do you support MySQL databases?
Answer: Our users can select to use MySQL or Oracle databases.
Q: Is JaWS hosting secure?
Answer: Our web hotel utilizes a host-based firewall for a secure perimeter,
reinforced with state-of-the-art web server software. Encryption is
provided for all sensitive traffic with digitially signed
certificates. Access is heavily restricted while still accommodating
customer needs. The hotel is regularly scanned by state-of-the-art
vulnerability scanners and intrusion detectors, and is backed up
nightly to a secure offsite location.
Q: What type of URL can I have for my site?
Answer: You may select whatever URL you would like for your site provided that URL is currently not in use and the URL ends in .umn.edu. Such as:
- http://www..umn.edu (or in the form of http://..umn.edu)
If you want a non-umn URL you can arrange for that with an organization such as godaddy.com, but first you need to contact Networking and Telecommunications Services
Q: Does JaWS do Windows Hosting?
Answer: JaWS offers offers one platform option:
Linux
Available 24 hours/day but not actively monitored by the on-call sysadmin paging system. Uses Apache web server with options for CGI scripting. Access permitted via WebDav tools. This option is ideal for sites where cost is a large factor. SSL protocol services available. Backing up is the responsibility of the user. Setup: $144.00 (one-time fee)
- Monthly recurring charge: $30. (100MB of space)
- Additional space available for $10 a month per 100MB of space.
Q: What is the normal process for JaWS projects?
Answer: If you are interested in any of the JaWS services you should Contact Us.We will respond to you as soon as possible, either to gather further information or possibly redirecting you to services which are more suitable. The process will differ depending upon the size and scope of your project.
